I wanted to show you guys why it is so awesome. This is using the CR2 plugin that jesse so graciously found for me. I know that a few of you use lightroom, and I have no idea what the raw import process looks like, so I’ll just give this a brief run through.

-White balance : This is key. You can select the conditions in which your picture was shot, and it will almost always give a faithful rendition. It is most apparent with indoor shots with artificial lighting.

-Contrast and Saturation : These are my two bestest friends in this utility. For the ocean pictures, I basically cranked the saturation up, sometimes to 100%. I always increase the contrast to where my blacks are black and my whites stay white lol.

That’s pretty much it. I also adjust the vignetting in the lens tab. It gives a more natural look, as opposed to the artificial ones I’ve used before (the shot of my puma shoes).

Also, I know many of you know this but I have red-green colorblindness. This, however, does not affect my ability to see red or green -rather I have difficult differentiating between the two. It does not affect my ability to perceive color either.

I mention this, because there are more factors than what is immediately apparent. My monitor is not color calibrated, nor can it present colors accurately (it actually is a bit blue). This is important because I always eyeball the image when I am adjusting the sliders, and then compulsively increment/decrement to the nearest multiple of 5, or a 7. Strange.. yes.

So with that, give raw a try… and have fun. Also do not forget to clean your lens before taking pictures, otherwise you will have awesome pictures with poo on your lens.
